A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Honorable Paul C. Broun; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Honorable Paul C. Broun has served the State of Georgia, its citizens, and its institutions of higher education with the utmost dedication and ability as a member of the Georgia Senate for an impressive period of 38 years; and

WHEREAS, he is known as a consummate southern gentleman, a pillar of the Athens community, a prominent businessman, and a devoted leader in the governmental, religious, and political organizations in his community; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his tremendous ability, experience, and leadership, he was appointed chairman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, was vice chairman of the Higher Education Committee, and chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs Committee in addition to his membership on other committees; and

WHEREAS, he championed efforts to improve higher education and represented Georgia on the esteemed Southern Regional Education Board, and he received the University of Georgia Alumni Merit Award and the Abraham Baldwin Award, the highest honor bestowed by the university; and

WHEREAS, his expertise, opinions, and guidance have been sought by governors, legislative leaders, and colleagues given his impeccable reputation for honesty, fairness, and integrity.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes and commends Honorable Paul C. Broun for his exemplary public service and conveys to him its wholehearted respect and best wishes forever.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Paul C. Broun.
