A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Toni Wilkerson on her
selection as Clayton
County´s
Teacher of the Year 2001; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Toni Wilkerson was chosen
by her peers as Teacher of the Year at Jonesboro Middle School and was then
selected as the 2001 Teacher of the Year for the Clayton County School System;
and
WHEREAS, she received her Bachelor of
Science degree in social studies from Georgia College and State University in
1970; and
WHEREAS, she began her teaching
career at St.
John´s
Catholic School in 1971 and, after spending some 13 successful years in the
business world, returned to teaching in 1985 as a fifth and sixth grade
classroom teacher at Huie Elementary School;
and
WHEREAS, in 1991, she transferred to
Jonesboro Middle School to teach social studies and science;
and
WHEREAS, she has given much time
training future teachers and collaborating with colleagues to raise teaching
standards and achievement; and
WHEREAS, she
is a member of Pi Gamma Mu and the Professional Association of Georgia
Educators; and
WHEREAS, she is a great
supporter of extracurricular activities, including memberships in the Georgia
Cheerleading Coaches Association and Clayton County Clean and Beautiful;
and
WHEREAS, she teaches students to live by
her favorite quote from William E.
Henley´s
1875 poem "Invictus": "I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my
soul."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that Toni Wilkerson is recognized and commended
upon her selection as the 2001 Teacher of the Year in the Clayton County School
System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to
Ms. Wilkerson.
