A RESOLUTION
Commending Carolyn Crayton; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Carolyn Crayton has earned the
respect and admiration of the citizens of Macon, Bibb County, and the State of
Georgia through her dedicated service as founder and executive director of the
Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission and the Macon, Georgia International Cherry
Blossom Festival; and
WHEREAS, she is past chairman
of the National Arbor Day Foundation and the International Festival and Events
Association Foundation, a past member of the Citizens Advisory Committee, the
Executive Committee, and the Education Committee of Georgia Clean and Beautiful,
a past member of the Riverfront Development Task Force, a past member of the
Macon Area Vocational Technical Advisory Board, and a past member of the Senate
Music Industry Committee; and
WHEREAS, she is an
active community leader and serves as a member of the Southeastern Tourism
Society, Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the Macon-Bibb County Convention and
Visitor´s
Bureau, the Macon Rescue Mission, and NewTown Macon;
and
WHEREAS, she has been recognized and honored
with numerous awards, including the Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson Award, the Queen
Mother´s
Award, the Ladies Home Journal Heroine Award, the Dean Day Smith Tribute
to Service Award, and Georgia Clean and
Beautiful´s
Woman of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, she developed
the Macon, Georgia International Cherry Blossom Festival into a premier event
which has gained national recognition, has fostered international relations and
goodwill by honoring a different nation each year and bringing guests from that
nation to the festival, and has promoted civic pride and community involvement
by the citizens of Macon and Bibb County and a recognition of the true beauty of
their community; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Crayton has
announced her intention to retire as executive director of the Macon, Georgia
International Cherry Blossom Festival and her outstanding efforts on behalf of
the festival and the community will be sorely
missed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Carolyn
Crayton for her many years of service to the Macon, Georgia International Cherry
Blossom Festival and her exemplary record of community service and extend to her
their best wishes for future happiness.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Carolyn
Crayton.
