A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Volunteer Blood Donor Month; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, every three seconds, someone
needs blood. Each day, patients across our country receive approximately 32,000
units of this vital resource; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia´s
blood supply needs constant replenishment to preserve the lives and health of
accident victims, people undergoing surgery, and patients receiving treatment
for leukemia, cancer, or other diseases;
and
WHEREAS, the National Volunteer Blood Donor
Month Coalition has chosen the month of January, a traditionally difficult time
to recruit blood donors, to highlight the importance of giving the gift of life
through the donation of blood; and
WHEREAS, our
state has an urgent need for additional healthy, regular volunteer donors. To
enhance, prolong, or even save the lives of thousands of Georgia citizens, it is
essential for all Georgians to donate blood during the month of
January.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize January, 2001,
as Volunteer Blood Donor Month in Georgia and urge our citizens to donate blood.
