A RESOLUTION

Commending Kimberly Satcher; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on December 18, 2000, Kimberly Satcher graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor´s degree in psychology and a near-perfect grade point average; and

WHEREAS, on the way to her degree, she survived five surgeries, radiation treatment, and chemotherapy for a malignant brain tumor first diagnosed in 1987; and

WHEREAS, doctors more than once told her death was imminent, teachers sometimes held dim views of her potential, and cancer left her totally blind and partially paralyzed on her left side; and

WHEREAS, with reliance on the strong religious faith instilled in her by her mother and the sheer stubbornness inherited from her father, she persevered; and

WHEREAS, motivated by a fierce determination to manage and succeed on her own terms and displaying a humble submission to the daily hardships, Kimberly triumphantly graduated from Rome Model High School in 1993 with an A! average; and

WHEREAS, buoyed by her success in high school and the strength gained from helping others, Kimberly tackled the rigors of college life at Kennesaw State University; and

WHEREAS, to succeed she had to learn skills essential to blind students: how to use a talking computer and an electronic Braille pad for keeping notes and how to deal with the anxiety and pressure of taking essay exams orally; and

WHEREAS, Kimberly succeeded beautifully and now plans to pursue a master´s degree in Christian counseling; and

WHEREAS, by her amazing example of courage, determination, defiant optimism, and unerring commitment to excellence and success, Kimberly has educated and inspired countless people.
