A RESOLUTION
Commending Kimberly Satcher; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, on December 18, 2000,
Kimberly Satcher graduated from Kennesaw State University with a
bachelor´s
degree in psychology and a near-perfect grade point average;
and
WHEREAS, on the way to her degree, she
survived five surgeries, radiation treatment, and chemotherapy for a malignant
brain tumor first diagnosed in 1987;
and
WHEREAS, doctors more than once told her
death was imminent, teachers sometimes held dim views of her potential, and
cancer left her totally blind and partially paralyzed on her left side;
and
WHEREAS, with reliance on the strong
religious faith instilled in her by her mother and the sheer stubbornness
inherited from her father, she persevered;
and
WHEREAS, motivated by a fierce
determination to manage and succeed on her own terms and displaying a humble
submission to the daily hardships, Kimberly triumphantly graduated from Rome
Model High School in 1993 with an
A! average;
and
WHEREAS, buoyed by her success in high
school and the strength gained from helping others, Kimberly tackled the rigors
of college life at Kennesaw State University;
and
WHEREAS, to succeed she had to learn
skills essential to blind students: how to use a talking computer and an
electronic Braille pad for keeping notes and how to deal with the anxiety and
pressure of taking essay exams orally;
and
WHEREAS, Kimberly succeeded beautifully
and now plans to pursue a
master´s
degree in Christian counseling; and
WHEREAS,
by her amazing example of courage, determination, defiant optimism, and unerring
commitment to excellence and success, Kimberly has educated and inspired
countless people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and
congratulate Kimberly Satcher and extend to her their sincere best wishes for
continued success and good fortune.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is
authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to
Kimberly Satcher.
