A RESOLUTION
Commending and expressing appreciation to the
SkyeLite Jazz Band of Savannah Arts Academy; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the SkyeLite Jazz Band of
Savannah Arts Academy is an accomplished and widely heralded musical group which
reflects great credit on the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, this outstanding group, formerly known
as the Blue Light Jazz Band, was formed under the direction of Mr. Michael
Hutchinson and Dr. John Bradley and has gone on to great success, including
among many other performances those given by the band in London, England; at the
Olympic Trials Opening Ceremony and the Olympic Closing Ceremony in Savannah; on
the steps of the United States Capitol; and in the State Days Series at the John
F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts;
and
WHEREAS, the band has previously been
designated as Official Ambassadors of Goodwill by President Clinton and Governor
Zell Miller; and
WHEREAS, the band recently
performed at the Georgia Reception at the 2000 Southern Legislative Conference
in Biloxi, Mississippi, and will perform at the State Dinner when Georgia hosts
the 2001 Southern Legislative Conference in Savannah;
and
WHEREAS, the band will also be
performing in the State Capitol for Savannah-Chatham Day on January 24,
2001.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby commends and expresses
appreciation to the SkyeLite Jazz Band of Savannah Arts Academy for its many
outstanding accomplishments and its important contributions to the State of
Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to prepare an
appropriate copy of this resolution for presentation to the SkyeLite Jazz
Band.
