A RESOLUTION
Urging the Board of Regents to name the Animal and Dairy
Science Complex at the University of Georgia in honor of Edgar L. Rhodes; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mr. Edgar L. Rhodes is
one of
Georgia´s
most distinguished citizens and public servants;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rhodes was born on April 1, 1916,
in Cumming, Georgia, and moved at an early age to Alpharetta, Georgia, where he
attended public schools and graduated from Milton High School;
and
WHEREAS, he went on to graduate from the
University of Georgia with a BSA degree and a major in vocational education;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rhodes then began a multi-faceted
career during which he served as a public high school teacher, an assistant
county agent, and an F.H.A. supervisor, in which capacity he came to his current
home in Bremen, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, he went on to
enjoy a successful business career as the owner of City Lumber Company, a
farmer, and an officer of the First National Bank of Haralson County;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rhodes has been an active
participant and leader in church and civic affairs in his community and the
state and currently serves as a member of the State Board of Technical and Adult
Education; and
WHEREAS, he served with great
distinction as a member of the Board of Regents of the University System of
Georgia from 1985 to 1999 and also served as chairman of the Board of Regents;
and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that permanent and
enduring recognition should be given to this outstanding Georgian for his
exemplary career of public service.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body does hereby urge
the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to name the Animal and
Dairy Science Complex at the University of Georgia in honor of Edgar L.
Rhodes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
the House is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this
resolution to Mr. Edgar L. Rhodes and to the Board of Regents of the University
System of Georgia.
