A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Code Section 33-24-59.7, relating to insurance
coverage for the treatment of morbidly obese patients, so as to require certain
insurers to offer coverage for the treatment of morbid obesity; to provide for
adjustment of current contracts; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
To amend Code Section 33-24-59.7, relating to insurance
coverage for the treatment of morbidly obese patients, is amended by striking
paragraph (2) of subsection (c) and inserting in lieu thereof a new paragraph
(2) to read as follows:
"(2) Every
health benefit policy that is delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in this
state or approved for issuance or renewal in this state by the Commissioner on
or after July 1, 1999 2002, which provides major medical
benefits may shall offer coverage for the treatment of
morbid obesity."
SECTION 2.
All contracts relating to the provision of health care
services in effect on July 1, 2002, shall be appropriately adjusted to reflect
any change in services provided as required by Section 1 of this
Act.
SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
