A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Code Section 50-5-131 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to definitions relative to minority business
enterprise development, so as to redefine the term "minority"; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
Code Section 50-5-131 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to definitions relative to minority business enterprise
development, is amended by striking in its entirety paragraph (1) and inserting
in lieu thereof the
following:
"(1)
'Minority' means an individual who is:
(A) A
member a member of a race which comprises less than 50
percent of the total population of the state;
or
(B) A person who has significant, permanent
disabilities in one or more of the major life activities, including without
limitation caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing,
hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, and working, as a result of one or more
of the following:
(i)
Amputation;
(ii)
Arthritis;
(iii)
Autism;
(iv)
Blindness;
(v) Burn
injury;
(vi)
Cancer;
(vii) Cerebral
palsy;
(viii) Cystic
fibrosis;
(ix)
Deafness;
(x) Head
injury;
(xi) Heart
disease;
(xii)
Hemiplegia;
(xiii)
Hemophilia;
(xiv) Mental
illness;
(xv) Mental
retardation;
(xvi) Multiple
sclerosis;
(xvii) Muscular
dystrophy;
(xviii) Musculoskeletal
disorders;
(xix) Neurological disorders,
including stroke and epilepsy;
(xx) Paraplegia,
quadriplegia, and other spinal cord
conditions;
(xxi) End stage renal
disease;
(xxii) Respiratory or pulmonary
dysfunction;
(xxiii) Sickle cell anemia;
and
(xxiv) Specific learning
disability."
SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
