A RESOLUTION
Commending Maretta Mitchell Taylor on the occasion of her
retirement from the Georgia House of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Maretta Mitchell Taylor has
served Columbus and the 134th District as a distinguished member of the Georgia
House of Representatives since 1990 and, upon the close of the 2001-2002
legislative session, she will begin a well-deserved retirement;
and
WHEREAS, her tenure as a public servant has
seen many wonderful changes in the greater Columbus area as well as in the State
of Georgia. She has touched many lives and by her presence made the General
Assembly a brighter place; and
WHEREAS, her
dedication, experience, and simple love for her job will be hard to replace;
and
WHEREAS, she was so successful in her position
because she had the needed knowledge and skills and because she met everyone who
came into her office with a smile; and
WHEREAS, she
is also a devoted wife and she looks forward to spending more time with her
loving husband, Jessie J.; and
WHEREAS, she
graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Albany State
College and received her master's degree in education from Indiana University;
and
WHEREAS, she is a devout Baptist and is active
in her church; and
WHEREAS, she is a successful
businesswoman and educator who has devoted her life to helping others not only
learn the necessary skills to succeed in life but also guarantee a healthy
economic climate so they may put those skills to
use.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body commend Maretta Mitchell Taylor on the occasion of
her retirement from the Georgia House of Representatives and wish her all the
best in her retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to Maretta Mitchell Taylor and her family.
