A RESOLUTION
Commending Children´s Advocacy Centers in Georgia and
recognizing Monday, February 5, 2001, as Child Advocacy Center Day at the state
capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the
Georgia Network of Children´s Advocacy Centers was formed in 1994 to
promote, assist, and support the development, growth, and continuation of
Children´s Advocacy Centers in Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Children´s Advocacy Centers
implement simple concepts in helping abused children, including encouraging
collaboration among agencies dealing with abused children, conducting joint
interviews with an abused child to reduce retelling and reliving traumatic
events, promoting teamwork among all interested parties, creating child-friendly
facilities, and tailoring programs to meet community needs;
and
WHEREAS, a multidisciplinary team consisting of
law enforcement personnel, child protective services employees, prosecuting
attorneys, medical personnel, mental health professionals, and other concerned
participants is the most effective means of reducing the trauma of child abuse
and successfully holding perpetrators accountable;
and
WHEREAS, these centers operate through public
and private partnerships with state support, federal support, and generous
donations of time, money, and specialized services from concerned professionals
and individuals in local communities across Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Georgia´s 30 advocacy centers are
currently serving 64 counties and 28 judicial districts;
and
WHEREAS, the Georgia Network of Children´s
Advocacy Centers strives to increase public awareness of the work of advocacy
centers, to support existing centers, and to assist communities in the
development of new advocacy centers; and
WHEREAS,
the outstanding efforts of the national Network of Children´s Advocacy
Centers and the Georgia Network of Children´s Advocacy Centers merit
recognition and endorsement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia
Network of Children´s Advocacy Centers for their efforts to prevent child
abuse and to treat abused children in Georgia and recognize Monday, February 5,
2001, as Child Advocacy Day at the state
capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary
of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to the Georgia Network of Children´s Advocacy Centers.
