Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Commending the Senate Research Office; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the Senate Research Office was
created in 1975 and celebrates 25 years of service to the members of the Georgia
Senate and the Lieutenant Governor this year;
and
WHEREAS, this staff office was established at
the initiative of then Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller to provide policy
analysis to his office and to assist the members of the Georgia Senate in
legislative research; and
WHEREAS, over the years
this office and its fine staff members have given valuable assistance to the
Senate and helped set legislative agendas and draft legislation;
and
WHEREAS, the Senate Research Office contacts
other state legislatures, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the
Council of State Governments, and the Southern Legislative Conference to obtain
the latest information available on public policy trends;
and
WHEREAS, this office serves all members of the
Georgia State Senate on a nonpartisan, confidential basis with its policy
analysts assigned to the 23 standing committees, and the office is currently
comprised of 12 full-time employees; and
WHEREAS,
the duties and responsibilities of this office have greatly benefited the
operation and deliberations of the Georgia State Senate throughout the past
quarter century and thereby substantively improved the Georgia General
Assembly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
SENATE that the members of this body commend the Senate Research Office on 25
years of dedicated and excellent service.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Senate Research Office.
