Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Commending Mr. James Lee Adams; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mr. James Lee Adams of Mitchell County,
Georgia, was named the 2000 Lancaster/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adams is the first Georgian
to receive this distinguished award; and
WHEREAS,
he received degrees from Georgia Tech and Auburn University and, in 1969, left
his job developing computer programs at Lockheed Aircraft to return to the
family farming business; and
WHEREAS, he has built
an efficient and cost-effective farming operation which includes growing pecans,
peanuts, cotton, and corn and raising stocker cattle and alligators and which
has poultry broiler houses; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adams
has become a leading spokesman for agriculture and an industry leader and has
appeared before Congress and in international trade negotiations;
and
WHEREAS, he is the president of the American
Soybean Association; and
WHEREAS, he and his wife,
Sue, are the proud parents of three daughters: Vicki Adams Davis; Susan Adams
Glass, whose husband, Mark, works with the family farm operation; and Sarah
Adams, who is a student at Brenau College;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adams has brought great honor and
recognition to the State of Georgia as a result of being named Southeastern
Farmer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly
fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished
Georgian be recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. James Lee Adams
on his many outstanding accomplishments and especially for being named the
Lancaster/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the
Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of
the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to Mr. James Lee Adams.
