Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Daccus Turman; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Daccus Turman brought fame and
honor to Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School in Washington, Georgia, as
the extraordinary running back who broke the Georgia state all-time single
season rushing record; and
WHEREAS, this
outstanding athlete broke the record of the legendary Herschel Walker by rushing
3,172 yards during the 2000 football season and he broke the record during the
stormy Class AA championship game against Americus on a rain soaked, muddy
field; and
WHEREAS, he set a new Georgia state
record for the most yards gained in ten games by rushing for 2,302 yards and was
named Sportswriters Football Player of the Year and the Class AA Co-Offensive
Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, he set a new state
record by carrying the ball an incredible 393 times in his Senior year and
scored 33 touchdowns for the season, almost breaking the school record of the
legendary Johnny Gresham, the famous All-American at Georgia Tech;
and
WHEREAS, this star athlete is an outstanding
student academically and a fine community leader, and he has accepted a full
football scholarship to play for the University of South Carolina beginning in
the fall of 2001.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE SENATE that this body recognizes and commends Daccus Turman on his record
setting achievements as a star running back and convey to him their heartiest
congratulations and best wishes for happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Daccus Turman.
