Senate Resolution 339

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, quality health care is vital for individuals involved in physical activity; and

WHEREAS, certified athletic trainers (ATCs) have a long history of providing quality health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity based on specific tasks, knowledge, and skills acquired through their nationally regulated educational processes; and

WHEREAS, certified athletic trainers provide prevention of injuries; recognition, evaluation, and immediate care; rehabilitation; health care administration; and education and guidance; and

WHEREAS, athletic training was recognized by the American Medical Association in 1990 as an allied health care profession; and

WHEREAS, more than 20,000 certified athletic trainers nation wide are employed in the following settings: professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, and corporate and individual settings; and

WHEREAS, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have joined together in a common desire to raise public awareness of the importance of the athletic training profession and to emphasize the importance of quality health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity within the aforementioned settings; and

WHEREAS, such an effort will inspire health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity and promote ATCs as allied health professionals; and

WHEREAS, Governor Roy Barnes has declared the month of March as Georgia Athletic Trainers Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association for its strong commitment to health care and its long history of service as allied health care professionals.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association.
