Recognizing and commending Denval B. Hamby for the gift to the St. Simons Land Trust; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Denval B. Hamby, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Hamby Corporation, made the first conservation donation to the St. Simons Land Trust on December 27, 2000, and increased significantly the greenspace on this treasured island; and

WHEREAS, the 50-foot wide strip of land provides an oceanfront buffer of natural woodland that serves as a habitat for wildlife; preserves the beach, forest, and wetland ecosystems; protects the watershed; and ensures adequate drainage; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the donation of the 1 1/2 acres of land, The Hamby Corporation made a substantial cash contribution to the St. Simons Land Trust to aid in funding the stewardship and future preservation efforts for the property; and

WHEREAS, this generous gift increases public awareness of the St. Simons Land Trust which was formed in the Spring of 2000 as a chapter of the Coastal Georgia Land Trust to preserve the rich heritage of natural resources and to protect the scenic beauty and ecological integrity of St. Simons Island for all Georgians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Denval B. Hamby of The Hamby Corporation for the generous gift to the St. Simons Land Trust and convey their appreciation of this substantial donation to protect and preserve Georgia's coastal heritage.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Denval B. Hamby and to the St. Simons Land Trust.
