Senate Resolution
349

A RESOLUTION
Commending the Atlanta Job Corps Center; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the National Job Corps Program
was established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, and throughout the years
it has assisted countless underprivileged young men and women aged 16 through 24
to obtain job training; and
WHEREAS, the Atlanta
Job Corps Center was begun in September, 1969, in the historic Waluhaje
Apartment Hotel Building, and it is unique in being the nation´s largest
residential employment and training program;
and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Atlanta Job Corps
Center is to provide an opportunity to participate in an alternative and
holistic learning environment which empowers individuals, enhances the quality
of life, and builds a better society; and
WHEREAS,
the thousands of graduates form Atlanta Job Corps programs are employed at all
levels of the work force throughout the country and are productive and
contributing citizens; an impressive number have joined the armed forces; and
many have attended colleges throughout the country;
and
WHEREAS, in today´s seeming attitude of
"devil catch the hindmost," it is only proper that the selfless men and women of
the Atlanta Job Corps Center be commended for helping so many of our young men
and women who might otherwise be left behind.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Atlanta Job Corps Center for the great service it is performing for our
state and country, but especially for its service to our young
citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary
of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to the Atlanta Job Corps Center.
