ADOPTED SENATE
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Sherwin Glass; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Sherwin Glass is a prominent
businessman and civic leader in Dublin, Georgia, who is well known throughout
the southeast for his generous philanthropic efforts;
and
WHEREAS, this distinguished Georgian was
presented the Abe Goldstein Human Relations Award by the Anti-Defamation League
Southeast Region for the year 2000 in honor of his outstanding commitment to
social justice; and
WHEREAS, he founded Farmers
Furniture in Soperton, Georgia, in 1949, and the company moved its headquarters
to Dublin and grew to include over 100 family-owned retail stores throughout
Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida;
and
WHEREAS, he has demonstrated a passionate
belief in the democratic principles of equality and fairness and valiantly led
the Anti-Defamation League in its mission to end bigotry and prejudice;
and
WHEREAS, his leadership, generosity, and
resoluteness have contributed substantially to improved community relations
throughout the south, and he has profoundly influenced the quality of life for
countless individuals and families and translated our democratic heritage into a
way of life for all people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body respectfully recognize and
commend Sherwin Glass for his commitment to social justice and congratulate him
on receiving the prestigious Abe Goldstein Human Relations Award from the
Anti-Defamation League Southeast Region.

FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sherwin Glass.
