Senate Resolution
45

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Emma Gresham; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Emma Gresham has served
admirably as mayor of the City of Keysville since 1988;
and
WHEREAS, she was instrumental in reactivating
the City of Keysville after the municipal government had remained dormant for
many years; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership as
mayor, the City of Keysville now has a water and sewer system and a human
development center for adult and youth education;
and
WHEREAS, she taught school for over 32 years
and continues to work diligently to inspire and motivate the youth of her
community to finish high school and further their education;
and
WHEREAS, she was honored by Essence
magazine for making a difference in her community on April 14, 2000, at an
awards ceremony at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City hosted by Oprah
Winfrey and Bill Cosby. She was honored along with other notable individuals,
such as Michael Jordan and Danny Glover, for their work in improving their
communities and the world. The award was presented by First Lady Hillary Rodham
Clinton.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
SENATE that Emma Gresham is recognized and commended for her service to her
community and for her receipt of an award from Essence magazine for being
a person who makes a difference in her community and
state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of
the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to Emma Gresham.
