Commending Trickum Middle School Academic Bowl Team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Trickum Middle School in Gwinnett County organized its first academic bowl three years ago in order to participate in the annual academic bowl competition for middle schools sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators; and

WHEREAS, such tournament competition gives students an opportunity to test their knowledge of the state´s middle school curriculum against that of middle school students from across the state, with questions taken from social studies, math, language arts, science, and fine arts; and

WHEREAS, Trickum´s academic bowl team has won several competitions since its inception. In May, 2000, the team won the state championship at the Georgia Academic Team Association Middle School Tournament in Macon, and in January of this year the team won the state championship at competition held in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding level of achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the team´s members and coaches alike and brings honor to the students and their teachers, parents, and community; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this team and its coaches be recognized by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the members and coaches of the Trickum Middle School Academic Bowl Team of Gwinnett County for their achievements and wish them continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Trickum Middle School Academic Bowl Team.
