By: Senators James of the 35th, Tate of the 38th,
Brown of the 26th, Gillis of the 20th, Marable of the 52nd and others
ADOPTED SENATE
A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of Hildred Wright Shumake, Jr., and
expressing sorrow at his passing; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Hildred Shumake was a man of
unforgettable qualities with an abundance of energy and charisma and an
irrepressible enthusiasm for life and people;
and
WHEREAS, born on September 22, 1955, in
Nashville, Tennessee, he attended Morehouse College and received a B.S. degree
in 1977; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his
achievements and contributions, he received the honor of being named to Who's
Who Among Young Men in America in 1984;
and
WHEREAS, a highly skillful politician with an
engaging speaking style, he served as a member of the Georgia State Senate from
1986 to 1992; and
WHEREAS, he represented the
citizens of Senate District 39 tirelessly, attending innumerable functions and
events and advocating for legislation critical to the best interests of his
constituency; and
WHEREAS, while in the Senate he
served as a member of the Insurance, Governmental Operations, Consumer Affairs,
and the State, County, and Urban Governments Committees;
and
WHEREAS, following his political career, he
successfully operated his family´s sausage manufacturing company;
and
WHEREAS, his death on January 5, 2002, is a
major loss to his friends and family, and he will be sorely
missed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
SENATE that Hildred Wright Shumake, Jr., is remembered and honored for his
public service to the citizens of the State of Georgia and for his uplifting
spirit and that sincere condolences are expressed to his family at his
passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary
of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to the family of Hildred Shumake.
