Senate Resolution
54

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Georgia Army and Air National Guard, the
State Defense Force, and the Adjutant General and declaring January 30, 2001, as
National Guard Day in Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, 12,000 dedicated men and women
serve in the Georgia Army and Air National Guard and the State Defense Force
under the command of the very able and distinguished Adjutant General David
Poythress whose state service is well known and respected;
and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Army
selected Georgia's 48th Infantry Brigade for the important NATO peacekeeping
mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina in acknowledgment of the unit's combat capability
and the overall readiness of the 1,200 members assigned;
and
WHEREAS, both Air National Guard flying units
successfully completed their first Air Expeditionary Force rotation that placed
airmen and aircraft on alert to respond to crises;
and
WHEREAS, at home the National Guard maintains
its highly trained Civil Response Team and continues its war on drugs through
its Counterdrug Task Force; and its Youth Challenge Academy, with campuses at
Fort Stewart and Fort Gordon, plays a key role assisting more than 2,500 at-risk
Georgia teens restructure their lives; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Army and Air National Guard truly embodies in its action the values
of its creed: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all we
do.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that this body salutes the Georgia Army and Air National Guard and Adjutant
General David Poythress and declares January 30, 2001, as National Guard Day in
Georgia in honor and tribute to them.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to Adjutant General David Poythress.
