Senate Resolution
57
By: Senators Beatty of the 47th, Harp of
the 16th, Seabaugh of the 28th, Hamrick of the
30th, Gingrey of the 37th and others
A RESOLUTION
Urging Congress to eliminate the marriage penalty tax; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the foundation of our
society is the family; and
WHEREAS, there should be
no governmental disincentives to a man and a woman joining together in a
permanent union in marriage; and
WHEREAS, a policy
that results in a married couple paying a higher rate of taxation than the two
would have paid together had they not made a long-term commitment through the
marriage contract is unfair on its face.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body urge
Congress to eliminate the federal marriage penalty
tax.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of
the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this
resolution to the public and the press.
