Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Commending Adelphia Channel 4, formerly known as
PrestigeVision 4; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
PrestigeVision 4 began operations in April 1997 under the leadership of then
owner Jon Oscher, who made a commitment to local programming;
and
WHEREAS, the primary product of PrestigeVision
4 has been its nightly newscast, known as News 4, with Brenda Homrich as news
anchor and director and Harris Blackwood as station manager;
and
WHEREAS, the organization has also televised
numerous school musical concerts, political forums, governmental meetings,
parades, fairs, and festivals; and
WHEREAS, the
organization and its employees have performed significant community service,
including responding to community needs in times of bad weather, blood drives,
and fund raising for numerous individuals in crises;
and
WHEREAS, since its founding, PrestigeVision 4
has received numerous local and regional awards for service to education,
charitable organizations, and veterans groups;
and
WHEREAS, PrestigeVision 4 was recently
purchased by Adelphia Communications Corporation, and John Rigas, president and
founder of Adelphia, now uses the Prestige model to establish new local
origination television channels in Adephia systems throughout the country;
and
WHEREAS, the station, now known as Adelphia
Channel 4, continues to produce nearly 140 hours of local programs for Forsyth
County each month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Adelphia Channel 4, formerly
known as PrestigeVision 4, for its many contributions to the welfare of this
state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of
the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to Adelphia Channel 4.
