ADOPTED SENATE
A RESOLUTION
Urging the Georgia Delegation to the United States Congress
to support the adoption of House Joint Resolution 81 proposing an amendment to
the United States Constitution allowing prayer and expression of religious
beliefs on public property and in public schools; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, House Joint Resolution 81
pending in the United States House of Representatives proposes an amendment to
the Untied States Constitution allowing prayer and expression of religious
beliefs on public property, including public schools;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendment reads as
follows:
"To
secure the people´s right to acknowledge God according to the dictates of
conscience:
Neither the United States nor any State
shall establish any official religion, but the people´s right to pray and
to recognize their religious beliefs, heritage, and traditions on public
property, including schools, shall not be
infringed.
The United States and the States shall not
compose school prayers, nor require any person to join in prayer or other
religious
activity."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the Georgia
Delegation to the United States Congress is urged to support the adoption of
House Joint Resolution 81.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an
appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Delegation to the United
States Congress.
