ADOPTED SENATE

A RESOLUTION

Honoring Christopher J. W. B. Leggett, M.D.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Christopher Leggett is widely acknowledged as America´s foremost interventional cardiologist, specializing in the treatment of coronary and vascular diseases; and

WHEREAS, he routinely performs intravascular angioplasty, atherectomy, laser, and stenting procedures; and

WHEREAS, most recently he has entered patients into the latest national clinical trials involving radiation therapy for coronary and peripheral vascular arterial blockages; and

WHEREAS, since 1994, Dr. Leggett has served as Director of Cardiology for the Medical Associates of Georgia in Canton, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leggett is the President of the American Heart Association´s southeastern affiliate -- the largest region in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Christopher James Willie B. Leggett was born on November 8, 1960, the tenth child of loving parents, Willie and Ethel Leggett; and

WHEREAS, academically gifted, as a youth he was awarded a three-year academic scholarship to the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, he continued his education at Princeton University, the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, he is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, National Medical Association, Association of Black Cardiologists, and Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leggett is affiliated with Saint Joseph´s and Piedmont Hospitals in Atlanta, the Gwinnett Health System in Lawrenceville, and Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he is a devout Christian, a devoted husband to his lovely wife, Denise, and a loving father to their two children, Alexandria and James.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and commend Christopher J. W. B. Leggett, M. D., and express their immense gratitude for his tremendous contributions to society.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Christopher Leggett.
