A RESOLUTION
Expressing regret at the passing of Mr. Thomas Bardin Hooks
III; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, on January
24, 2001, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished
citizens with the untimely passing of Mr. Thomas Bardin Hooks III;
and
WHEREAS, he was a lifelong resident of
Americus, a member of a pioneer Sumter County family, who devoted his life to
his community through his service as owner of The Hooks Agency, Inc.;
and
WHEREAS, this beloved gentleman was actively
involved in the civic, religious, and charitable affairs of his community and
gave unstintingly and unceasingly of his time, talents, and energy to improve
the quality of life in his community, as dramatically evidenced by his years of
service on the Americus-Sumter Chamber of Commerce, the Sumter County Airport
Commission, and the Sumter County Welfare Board, and by his membership in the
First Baptist Church of Americus, American Legion, and Americus Rotary Club;
and
WHEREAS, he was an avid sportsman and athlete
throughout his life, having been a finalist on the U.S. Olympic Diving Team in
1932; and
WHEREAS, his unparalleled organizational
and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of
vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community
earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates;
and
WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this generous,
unselfish, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and
lives of his family and friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest
and most sincere regret at the passing of Thomas Bardin Hooks
III.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of
the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to the family of Thomas Bardin Hooks III.
