Senate Resolution 769

A RESOLUTION

Commending Richards Middle School; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Richards Middle School won the Science Olympiad middle school regional championship on February 9, 2002, at Columbus State University; and

WHEREAS, Richards bested 13 other schools in the competition and qualified for the state competition that will be held in Augusta, Georgia, on March 23, 2002; and

WHEREAS, the Science Olympiad is an academic competition in the format of a track and field meet in which a team of 15 students compete in 23 events that test the students' knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills, and applications in biology, geology, chemistry, physics, and computer technology; and

WHEREAS, the members of Richards Middle School Science Olympiad team include: Laurel Bennett, Zack Bovaird, Mike Britt, Leslie Hilding, Rishi Jain, Robert Johnson, Samantha Kaplan, Courtney Lawton, Jeffrey Love, Amy Martin, Cecil Rhodes, Thomas Rhodes, Leah Slaughter, Adrian Thomas, and Muktar Voss; and these students will long remember this special experience and their accomplishments.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Richards Middle School on winning the Science Olympiad regional championship and convey to the students their congratulations and best wishes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Richards Middle School.
