Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Commending the Parkview High School Boys Swim and Diving
Team; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Parkview
High School Boys Swim and Diving Team won the Class AAAAA State Championship
held at Westminster High School in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday,
February 16, 2002, and brought fame and honor to the team and the school;
and
WHEREAS, the team's spectacular performance was
made all the more impressive by the team winning its third boy's title in a row,
a wonderful team history; and
WHEREAS, Mike
Kauffman won the 500 freestyle for the fourth straight year with a record
breaking time and the 200 freestyle becoming only one of five swimmers in the
State of Georgia to accomplish this feat; and Eric Shanteau won the 100
backstroke and again broke his own state record in the 200 individual medley, a
feat he has accomplished each time that he has won the event as a sophomore,
junior, and senior; and
WHEREAS, the team of Eric
Shanteau, Mike Kauffman, David McManic, and John Millen won the 200 medley relay
setting a new school record and state record; and the team of Eric Shanteau,
John Millen, Mike Kauffman, and Michael Miller won and set a state record in the
400 freestyle relay; and
WHEREAS, a combined effort
of Michael Bennett, John Churchman, Jay Fitzgerald, Doug Forester, Brendan
Hanrahan, Michael Kauffman, David McManic, John Millen, Michael Miller, Will
Norman, Kyle Packer, Eric Shanteau, and Harrison Simmons showed true competitive
spirit; and
WHEREAS, Coach Rick Creed, who obtained
his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University, has been a
wonderful teacher for 19 years during which time he has been named the Parkview
and Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year for 2002 and presently serves as
president of the Georgia High School Swim Coaches Association, and has been
recognized as the Georgia Coach of the Year for five years and the Gwinnett
Coach of the Year for four years, while being an exemplary husband, father, and
community activist; and
WHEREAS, this year's team
earned a total of 323 points to defeat Centennial High School for the state
title.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body recognize and commend the Parkview High School
Boys Swim and Diving Team on their spectacular performance in winning the Class
AAAAA State Championship and convey to the team and their coaches their
heartiest congratulations and best wishes.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the team's coach, Rick Creed.
