A RESOLUTION

Commending Judge Paschal A. English, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Upson County Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English, Jr., is currently featured among the 16 contestants in the latest installment of the hugely popular television series "Survivor" airing on CBS; and

WHEREAS, the series which began airing on February 28, 2002, was filmed during the months of November and December, 2001, on the island of Nuku Hiva near Tahiti in the South Pacific, described as one of the most remote areas in the world; and

WHEREAS, Judge English´s participation on the show was a well-kept secret in Upson County and while speculations were rampant as to his whereabouts, he was on an island building his own shelter, foraging for food and water, and competing against other contestants as part of a television show that has become a national phenomenon; and

WHEREAS, while the contestant profiles indicates that Judge English is the senior member of the group at age 57, he is well known in Upson County as a fit athlete who can be seen running through the streets of Thomaston for several miles each day; and

WHEREAS, a Vietnam War veteran and a respected judge who is considered a likely candidate for the federal bench, he is known for his leadership and integrity; and

WHEREAS, these qualities should serve him well as a "Survivor" cast member and the citizens of the City of Thomaston and Upson County are duly proud of their hometown celebrity.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend and congratulate Judge Paschal A. English, Jr., on his selection as a contestant on the hit television show "Survivor" and express their heartiest wish that the tribe has spoken in his favor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Judge Paschal A. English, Jr.
