Senate Resolution 959

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Bankhead brothers on becoming Eagle Scouts; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Andrew Jacob (Jake) Bankhead earned and was awarded the coveted rank of Eagle Scout on March 26, 1995; and

WHEREAS, Robert Benjamin (Ben) Bankhead earned and was awarded the coveted rank of Eagle Scout on July 20, 1997; and

WHEREAS, John G. R. Bankhead, Jr., earned and was awarded the coveted rank of Eagle Scout on August 5, 2001; and

WHEREAS, since 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been the symbol of the highest achievement among the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, the attainment of the Eagle Scout rank indicates that a scout has developed leadership ability, self-confidence, mature judgment, and mental and physical capabilities that will be of immense benefit throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, all three brothers held numerous leadership positions in Troop 876 in Stone Mountain and amply demonstrated to their scout leaders and peers that they possess these qualities along with sterling character; and

WHEREAS, only a rare proportion of young men in scouting meet the supreme standards of excellence demanded of candidates for the rank of Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, all three sons of Tracey and John G. R. Bankhead, Sr., obtained the rank of Eagle Scout making this the first time in the history of Troop 876 that three brothers earned the rank of Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, in achieving Eagle Scout status, Jake, Ben, and John have brought honor not only to themselves but also to their family and troop.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Stone Mountain Boy Scout Troop 876, former Scoutmasters Dee Childress and George Patrick, and current Scoutmaster John Pelick for their steadfast and enthusiastic support of the young men of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend Eagle Scouts Andrew Jacob Bankhead, Robert Benjamin Bankhead, and John G. R. Bankhead, Jr., for their diligence, determination, and dedication in obtaining the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America and their parents, John and Tracey Bankhead, for encouraging and supporting their sons in this achievement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Stone Mountain Boy Scout Troop 876, Scoutmaster John Pelick, and Eagle Scouts Andrew Jacob Bankhead, Robert Benjamin Bankhead, and John G. R. Bankhead, Jr.
