A RESOLUTION
Urging the United States Congress to take all necessary
steps to authorize the production of energy from all potential domestic sources
of supply; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the
United States of America has been subjected to wanton acts of terrorism that
threaten the peace and security of our great nation;
and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Georgia
stand ready to join with their fellow citizens of the United States of America
to promote national security and energy
independence;
WHEREAS, Georgia recently experienced
one of its coldest winters, and many residents received expensive oil and
natural gas bills; and
WHEREAS, energy is the
lifeblood of the American economy; and
WHEREAS,
safe, reliable, and secure sources of energy are essential to the effective
operation and deployment of America´s armed forces;
and
WHEREAS, the United States has become
dangerously dependent on overseas sources of energy, which is demonstrated by
our reliance on foreign supplies for 56 percent of the crude oil we consume;
and
WHEREAS, the security of the citizens and
economy of the United States of America depend on reducing our reliance on
overseas sources of energy; and
WHEREAS, the United
States of America has abundant, untapped sources of energy, including oil,
natural gas, and other forms of energy throughout the
country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that members of this body urge the United States
Congress to take all necessary steps to promote the national security of the
United States by authorizing the production of energy from all potential
domestic sources of supply.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to
transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Georgia´s congressional
delegation.
