A RESOLUTION

Inviting the Future Farmers of America to hold the 2006-2010 National FFA Conventions in Atlanta; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Future Farmers of America was organized nationally in 1928 and is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential through agricultural education; and

WHEREAS, the National FFA Convention is a premier educational experience offering leadership, personal growth, and career exploration opportunities to FFA members and serves as a recognition and reward for the accomplishments of FFA members during the preceding year; and

WHEREAS, because of the powerful focus placed on the future of agriculture, the convention also serves as a meeting ground for 45,000 to 50,000 participants, including agribusiness and corporate leaders from throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, agriculture is of vital importance to the State of Georgia and is the mainstay of Georgia´s economy; and

WHEREAS, as home of the HOPE Scholarship and the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of the University of Georgia, the State of Georgia is committed to agricultural education and opportunities for young people; and

WHEREAS, with the Georgia World Congress Center, Centennial Olympic Park, Hartsfield International Airport, MARTA, the Georgia Dome, Turner Field, Phillips Arena, the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site, Zoo Atlanta and its Giant Panda Exhibit, Underground Atlanta, the World of Coca Cola, and our outstanding supply of convention hotels and facilities, Atlanta and the State of Georgia offer a unique opportunity for those attending the National FFA Convention; and
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia welcomes the opportunity to host the Future Farmers of America and the National FFA Convention.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body urge the Future Farmers of America to hold the 2006-2010 National FFA Conventions in Atlanta.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Future Farmers of America.
