Tom Price of Roswell was first elected in 1996 to the State Senate to serve the people of the 56th District, comprising portions of North Fulton, Cherokee, and Gwinnett counties.
In a short period of time, Senator Price has distinguished himself as a leader, a diligent and tireless worker, and a problem-solver. After just one term in the Senate, Price was selected by his colleagues to serve as the Minority Whip, a position to which he was recently re-elected. As such, Senator Price works regularly with leaders from both parties, the Lieutenant Governor and Governor in a effort to craft meaningful and needed legislation.
Senator Price worked successfully to enact legislation increasing the safety of children cared for in Home Childcare Facilities and providing parents greater authority in protecting their children from predators. He continues to actively work to strengthen DUI laws in Georgia and was the sponsor of the recent Joint DUI Study Committee legislation. Senator Price is a member of the Health and Human Services, Consumer Affairs, Education, Reapportionment, and Rules Committees.
A physician, Senator Price has emerged as a leader in the healthcare arena sponsoring legislation to increase patient choice, ensure a more flexible healthcare system, enact Medical Savings Accounts, and reform the Medicaid System. He has actively worked to require Truth-in-Sentencing for violent criminals. Senator Price also supports major tax reform, competition in public education, and increased efficiency in state government.
Senator Price obtained his Bachelors and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed a General Surgical Internship and Orthopedic Surgical Residency at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. Senator Price also represents Georgia on the Health Care Task Force of the American Legislative Enterprise Council.
Price has been active in his community, currently serving on the Boards of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Orchestra Atlanta, and the Arthritis Foundation. He has been a member of the Boards of North Metro YMCA, the Northside Bank, and is a Past-President of the Rotary Club of Roswell. Senator Price with his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Robert, reside in Roswell. The Prices are active members of the Roswell Presbyterian Church, the Georgia Ensemble Theater, and the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
