Senate Resolution 35EX2
By: Senators Gingrey of the 37th, Thompson of the 33rd, Tanksley of the 32nd, Tate of the 38th and Lamutt of the 21st

A RESOLUTION

Commending Dr. Pete Inglis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Pete Inglis of Marietta, Georgia, has written a book, Restored to Honor: Georgia's B-29 "Sweet Eloise," the story of a unique World War II airplane and its connection to the City of Marietta; and

WHEREAS, for Dr. Inglis, this book is the culmination of a lifetime interest in aviation in general, and in the B-29 bomber in particular, which began in 1943 and grew during his service as a flight surgeon at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan from 1947-49; and

WHEREAS, in the late 1980s he generated local interest in obtaining a B-29 for historical purposes since it was at the Marietta B-29 Bell Bomber Plant where many of these special aircraft were produced; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Inglis has served as the historian of the B-29 Superfortress Association, Inc., a group that was formed in 1991 to obtain a B-29 for the City of Marietta and that has successfully completed its mission; and

WHEREAS, in his book, Dr. Inglis traces the history of one B-29 in particular, "Sweet Eloise," from its inception, through its days in combat, and finally its restoration and placement on display at Dobbins Air Reserve Base as a memorial to its designers, engineers, builders, flyers, and victims; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Inglis's book paints a vivid picture of wartime Marietta and the important role that the B-29 aircraft played in our nation's history; and

WHEREAS, this interesting and well-researched book pays tribute to all the men and women who were involved with B-29s during World War II, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Dr. Pete Inglis on the publication of his fascinating book and for his efforts to bring back to the citizens of Marietta and Georgia an important piece of our history.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Pete Inglis.
