A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Article 2A of Chapter 5 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to contributions to candidates for public office, so as to prohibit certain contributions by certain applicants for judgeships; to prohibit certain contributions by candidates for judicial office; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 2A of Chapter 5 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to contributions to candidates for public office, is amended by adding a new Code section at the end thereof, to be designated Code Section 21_5_45, to read as follows:
"21_5_45.
(a) No person who is under consideration by the Judicial Nominating Commission for appointment to a judgeship by the Governor shall make a contribution to the Governor, a candidate for the office of Governor, or the campaign committee of such officer or candidate during the period of consideration before such commission.
(b) No person who is a candidate for any judicial office in this state shall make a contribution to any candidate for the General Assembly or any candidate for state_wide elected office."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
