A BILL TO BE
ENTITLED AN ACT
To amend Code Section 20-2-281 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to the assessment of the effectiveness of
educational programs, so as to exempt international students without English
speaking, reading, and writing skills from all state mandated student
assessments for the first year that such students are enrolled in a school in
this state; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
Code Section 20-2-281 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to the assessment of the effectiveness of educational
programs, is amended by inserting immediately following subsection (a) a new
subsection (a.1) to read as
follows: "(a.1)
The State Board of Education shall provide for the exemption of an international
student of limited English speaking, reading, and writing skills from the
assessment instruments provided for in this subsection for the first year in
which any such student is enrolled in a school in this
state."
SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
repealed.
