A RESOLUTION

Commending Admiral John Henry "Jack" Towers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation´s security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm´s way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, Admiral John Henry "Jack" Towers has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, this native son of Rome, Georgia diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction during World War II as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, the incredible career of this extraordinary man began in 1908 when he was commissioned to serve as an ensign on the battleship "Kentucky"; and

WHEREAS, on October 6, 1942, he was appointed the Commander of the Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet where he directed the expansion of the carrier forces and led the air arm of the largest fleet ever assembled in history; and

WHEREAS, on February 1, 1946, he was appointed the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet; and

WHEREAS, his contributions have been recognized as a major factor in the Allied victory in the Pacific and in every chapter of the early development of Naval Aviation; and

WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Admiral John Henry "Jack" Towers for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and state and extend to his family their most profound and sincere appreciation for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Admiral John Henry "Jack" Towers.
