A RESOLUTION

Commending the 2002 University of Georgia football team and inviting Head Coach Mark Richt and others to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2002 University of Georgia football team proudly set the school record with 13 victories in a single season and won its first Southeastern Conference title in 20 years; and

WHEREAS, these outstanding athletes dominated one of the country´s most competitive athletic programs throughout the season and resoundingly defeated Florida State with a 26-13 Sugar Bowl victory on January 1, 2003, at the spectacular Louisiana Superdome; and

WHEREAS, these fabulous Bulldogs finished this historic season as the number three ranked team in the nation, the highest position the university has held since 1980; and

WHEREAS, David Pollack was named SEC Player of the Year; David Greene was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year; Billy Bennett was SEC Scoring Champion with 130 points; Terrence Edwards set the SEC Career Record for Reception Yardage (3,093); and Head Coach Mark Richt was rightfully named SEC Coach of the Year.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the 2002 University of Georgia football team as the very proud SEC champions and invite Head Coach Mark Richt and others to appear before the House of Representatives at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Mark Richt.
