A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Athens Chamber of Commerce on its 100th anniversary and inviting representatives to appear before this body; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Athens Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1903 with more than 100 members who recognized the significance of business advocacy for local commerce and trade to flourish in this state university town; and

WHEREAS, through the years outstanding volunteer leadership has been one of the hallmarks of the Athens Chamber, and prominent merchants, industry leaders, politicians, and media professionals have ably contributed their vision and energy as presidents; and

WHEREAS, nine very capable and influential leaders have served as the executive directors over the life of the organization and have significantly advanced the mission and initiatives of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, as it is known today; and

WHEREAS, the organization continues to foster an environment conducive to business and economic development; and the diligence, dedication, and abiding commitment of its members, the board of directors, and the staff will leave a lasting legacy for business in the next century as well.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce on its 100th anniversary and invite representatives to appear before this body at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House to convey their best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rich Carey, Executive Director of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.
