A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Honorable Charles Ferguson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Honorable Charles Ferguson has served with distinction, dedication, and ability as district attorney of the Pataula Judicial Circuit since February 24, 1978; and

WHEREAS, he was selected as 2003 District Attorney of the Year by the Prosecuting Attorneys´ Council of Georgia and the Georgia District Attorneys Association in recognition of his outstanding record of service and his commitment to justice; and

WHEREAS, he is a life long resident of Randolph County, attended Randolph County public schools, and received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Alabama, where he played football as a starting offensive guard and was the recipient of the prestigious Frank Thomas Award; and

WHEREAS, as district attorney, he supervises a staff of seven assistant district attorneys, three secretaries, one investigator, and two victim witness advocates and oversees an exceptional child support recovery program; and

WHEREAS, he serves on the child abuse protocol committees in each county within his judicial circuit, the State Children´s Justice Act Advisory Committee, and the advisory board of Camp E-Tu-Nake, which serves troubled boys ages 12-16 and is operated by Eckerd Youth Alternatives in Early County; and

WHEREAS, he is an active member of Cuthbert United Methodist Church, the Lions Club of Cuthbert, the Cuthbert Rotary Club, and the board of directors of the Southwest Quarter Habitat for Humanity, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, he is the devoted husband of Shelly Ferguson, who is in her thirtieth year of teaching at Randolph-Clay High School, and the father of three outstanding children, Chip, Paige, and Mia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Honorable Charles Ferguson for his many years of dedicated public service to the citizens of the Pataula Judicial Circuit and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Charles Ferguson.
