A RESOLUTION

Commending the Carrollton High School Competitive Cheerleading Squad and its coaches on their Class AAA State Championship and inviting the team and its coaches to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Carrollton High School Competitive Cheerleading Squad has a proud tradition of excellence in girls cheerleading and the varsity squad brought honor and credit to the team, the school, and the community as it triumphed over 16 other teams and captured the state Class AAA title for 2004; and

WHEREAS, this year´s state championship was the school´s second in the last three years and confirms the school´s premier position in this competitive sport; and

WHEREAS, these young athletes demonstrated exceptional ability, motivation, drive, discipline, and teamwork throughout their season and their grand record reflects the dedication and encouragement provided by their experienced coach, Susan Gordy, and assistant coaches, Robin Blevins and Michelle Koker; and

WHEREAS, the team of Christen Benefield, Ashely Dean, Casey Denny, Kristen Dixon, Antoinette Duncan, Isabel Duncan, Melissa Grisham, Lauren Hammond, Jenny Head, Amber Higgs, Shae Holland, Katie Holmes, Liz Johnson, Meghan McGovern, Amy Phillips, Kristi Phillips, Dena Schoerner, Kristen Sewell, Jenna Weitz, Alliyson Wood, and Amy Wood performed with precision during the season and earned this team a well deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its routines, and the stiff competition which it presented its opponents; and

WHEREAS, the Carrollton High School Competitive Cheerleading Squad has gained tremendous accomplishments for these talented athletes, created a marvelous spirit of unity within the community and wonderful memories for parents, fellow students and these remarkable cheerleaders to treasure forever.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Carrollton High School Competitive Cheerleading Squad on winning the state Class AAA title and convey to the team and its coaches their congratulations and best wishes for continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the coaches and members of the Carrollton High School Competitive Cheerleading Squad are invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and at a time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the members of Carrollton High School´s Cheerleading Squad and its coaches.
