A RESOLUTION
Commending the incredible artistic talents of Amanda
Watkins, daughter of Miller and Jane Watkins; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Gainesville native Amanda
Watkins began performing with the Gainesville Ballet Company at age 11 and,
under the direction of Pam Ware,
Amanda´s
hard work and stellar performances led to roles in numerous school plays at
Gainesville High School; and
WHEREAS, Amanda earned
her bachelor of fine arts in music and theater from Florida State University;
and
WHEREAS, Amanda has performed parts on several
Broadway tours, including Grease and Cabaret;
and
WHEREAS, she now lives in New York and has had
leading roles in productions such as Urinetown; Beauty and the
Beast; and Cats; and
WHEREAS, she
continues to remain busy as she takes part in regional touring productions
including The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Damn
Yankees, and South Pacific; and
WHEREAS,
Amanda currently stars at the Alliance Theatre, playing the memorable role of
Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady;
and
WHEREAS, she is proud of her hometown and is a
tribute to the artistic opportunities and venues that exist in Gainesville and
credits formal education for its part in her vivacious and talented
success.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Amanda
Watkins´s
incredible artistic talents and accomplishments and wish her success in what is
sure to be a very bright future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Amanda Watkins.
