House Resolution
151 By: Representatives Ashe of the 42nd,
Post 2, Manning of the 32nd, Willard of the 40th, Bordeaux
of the 125th, Cooper of the 30th, and others
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and inviting
representatives to appear before this body; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the Presbytery of Greater
Atlanta includes 19 counties in the metropolitan Atlanta area and provides a
supportive network that serves to connect and empower the 110 member churches in
their mission of religious ministry; and
WHEREAS,
the Presbytery forms new congregations and assists in financing new churches;
supervises and guides the preparation of candidates for the ministry; works with
local church Pastor Nominating Committees to find pastoral leadership; and
assists congregations to meet their respective challenges of growth and
religious mission; and
WHEREAS, there are 63,000
Presbyterian church members within the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and 385
dedicated Presbyterian pastors in what has become the third largest presbytery
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, two fine
Presbyterian Seminaries (Columbia Presbyterian and Johnson C. Smith Theological
Seminary) are within the boundary of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta which
strengthens the resources and opportunities available to this dynamic
presbytery.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes the Presbytery of Greater
Atlanta and invites representatives to appear before this body at a time to be
determined by the Speaker of the House.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
Presbytery of Greater Atlanta.
