A RESOLUTION
Commending Honorable Jeanette Jamieson; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Honorable Jeanette Jamieson, our distinguished colleague from Toccoa and Stephens County, was named Council Member of the Year 2002 by the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Councils for her exemplary leadership in this key environmental program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and
WHEREAS, the Resource Conservation Development program provides an opportunity for local citizens to fill unmet needs in their region and offers technical assistance to balance environmental, economic, and human concerns yet achieve resource conservation, water management, environmental enhancement, and community development; and
WHEREAS, Representative Jamieson has been a strong advocate of the RC&D program for more than 20 years, was elected president of the Southeastern Association of RC&D Councils in 1981, and currently holds that office as well as that of president of the Chestatee-Chattahoochee RC&D Council; and she is president of the Georgia RC&D Association and a board member of the National Association of RC&D Councils; and
WHEREAS, under her superb leadership, the Georgia RC&D Councils have initiated many innovative programs that were replicated throughout the southeastern states and the nation, in particular the Wheels to Work program that created a partnership between the Department of Transportation and the Department of Human Resources and offered over 1800 clients statewide an opportunity for independence in the form of a hand up and not a handout.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and congratulate Honorable Jeanette Jamieson as the Council Member of the Year 2002 for the National Association of RC&D Councils.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Jeanette Jamieson.
