House Resolution
1618 By: Representatives Murphy of the 14th,
Post 2, Knox of the 14th, Post 1, Jones of the 38th,
Willard of the 40th, Campbell of the 39th, and others
A RESOLUTION
Honoring and remembering the life and service of the
Honorable Richard S. Gault; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Forsyth County and the State of
Georgia lost one of their most distinguished, respected, and admired husbands,
fathers, and jurists with the passing of the Honorable Richard S. Gault, chief
judge of the Superior Court of the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit, on July 23,
2003; and
WHEREAS, he graduated from Marietta High
School, was a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, and earned his Juris
Doctorate from the Emory University School of Law;
and
WHEREAS, he spent four years in the service of
the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged
with the rank of captain in 1971; and
WHEREAS, he
spent 13 years in private practice, six years as an Assistant and Special
Assistant Attorney General of Georgia, and six years as the solicitor of the
State Court of Cherokee and Forsyth counties;
and
WHEREAS, he spent four years as judge of the
State Court of Cherokee and Forsyth counties and 14 years as judge of the
Superior Court of the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit prior to his service as
chief judge of that circuit; and
WHEREAS, he was a
dedicated member of the Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia serving as
the
organization´s
president from 1998-1999 and was a member of the Forsyth Rotary Club;
and
WHEREAS, he was the former director of the
Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and a loyal and devoted parishioner of the
First Baptist Church of Cumming; and WHEREAS, he was
married to his beautiful wife, Paula Heard Gault, and together they shared a
love for their four wonderful daughters Michelle Leak, Melanie Martin, Kelley
Story, and Kristin Martin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor and
remember the life and service of the Honorable Richard S. Gault and extend
to his family their deepest condolences.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Paula Heard
Gault.
