A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Rev. Jerry Knight; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Rev. Jerry Knight is the very devout and dedicated pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville, Georgia, who has served this congregation with the utmost ability for the past 25 years, the longest tenure of any recent church pastor; and

WHEREAS, he was born in Tattnall County on June 13, 1944, the eighth child of Elizabeth and Otis Knight who provided him a firm religious foundation and a deep love for gospel music that he continues to enjoy today; and

WHEREAS, although he was trained as an electrician and pursued a teaching career that spanned 28 years and included teaching at Savannah Vocational Technical School, Claxton High School, and Smith State Prison, eventually he was called into the ministry and accepted a pastor’s position at Smyrna Baptist Church in 1971; and

WHEREAS, on January 1, 1978, Jerry was called to Calvary Baptist Church where he has provided exceptional spiritual leadership to the congregation and community; and

WHEREAS, on January 26, 2003, Calvary Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor’s Appreciation Day and pay special tribute to Rev. Jerry Knight on his 25th anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes and commends Rev. Jerry Knight for his 25 years of dedicated service to Calvary Baptist Church and conveys to him appreciation, respect, and best wishes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rev. Jerry Knight.
