A RESOLUTION
Commending Mr. John A. Ferguson, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, in 1964, Mr. John A. Ferguson,
Jr., joined the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and became the first hospital
engineer in the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, in
1968, at the age of 28, he became the youngest hospital administrator and chief
executive officer in the state and he has since achieved Fellowship in the
American College of Healthcare Executives;
and
WHEREAS, when Mr. Ferguson came to Northeast
Georgia Medical Center, the organization was a single-entity acute care hospital
with 147 beds and 430 employees; and
WHEREAS,
Northeast Georgia Health System is now a major provider of health care services
for 20 counties in Northeast Georgia and has over 3,500 employees and one of the
largest and most active volunteer programs in the state;
and
WHEREAS, major services that have been added
under Mr.
Ferguson´s
leadership include: the Ronnie Green Heart Center and Stribling Heart Clinic for
advanced heart care; the only comprehensive cancer care service in the region
that is served by Northeast Georgia Medical Center, a network of 14 primary care
centers across eight counties; a neonatal care service; and a comprehensive
physical rehabilitation institute; and
WHEREAS, Mr.
Ferguson´s
vision for a healthier community, coupled with a heart for the people who depend
on Northeast Georgia Medical Center for health care services, paved the way for
a strong relationship with the Hall County Health Department;
and
WHEREAS, funds have been raised through the
Medical Center Foundation for numerous other health related community benefits
such as the Hall County Meals on Wheels, the Safe Kids Playground at Fair Street
Elementary School, automatic external defibrillators for Hall County emergency
response vehicles, and Challenged Child;
and
WHEREAS, Mr.
Ferguson´s
vision for high-quality health care services and his heart for the people who
depend on Northeast Georgia Health System have, unquestionably, made an impact
on the community health and the quality of life in Hall County and surrounding
counties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. John A.
Ferguson, Jr., on his many contributions to the health services and the
well-being of Northeast Georgia residents.
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. John A.
Ferguson, Jr.
