A RESOLUTION

Commending Channell Singh and recognizing her as a 2004 Georgia Certificate of Merit recipient; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Channell Singh was nominated by her high school to receive the 2004 Georgia Certificate of Merit; and

WHEREAS, Georgia Certificate of Merit winners must be ranked in the top 5 percent of their class and join an elite group of over 4,000 high school juniors chosen to receive one of the most prestigious academic awards in the southern United States; and

WHEREAS, first presented in 1959 by the University of Georgia to identify our state´s most academically talented students, the Certificate of Merit program gained the State of Georgia as its cosponsor in 1970; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia and its flagship University seek to encourage the best and brightest students from over 400 high schools to explore the wide variety of educational opportunities available in the state; and

WHEREAS, so that recipients might learn more about scholarships and honors programs available to them, the University of Georgia submits to them a list of all such programs; and

WHEREAS, in earning her Certificate of Merit, Channell has made her family, friends, fellow students, and school faculty proud.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Channell Singh on her most notable and grand achievement and recognize her as a 2004 Georgia Certificate of Merit recipient.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Channell Singh.
