A RESOLUTION

Expressing regret at the passing of Chief Warrant Officer Richard Branson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation´s security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm´s way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens in the untimely passing of Chief Warrant Officer Richard Branson; and

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Richard Branson has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, this Vietnam veteran diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS, following his retirement from active duty in 1987, this extraordinary man became a tireless advocate on behalf of veterans and served as State Adjutant and Quartermaster of the Department of Georgia Veterans of Foreign Wars, as Senior Claims Counselor for the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs, and on many other national veterans affairs committees; and

WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this American hero leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower and will always serve as a reminder that "freedom is not free," and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Chief Warrant Officer Richard Branson; commend him for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and state; and extend to his family their most profound appreciation for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Chief Warrant Officer Richard Branson.
